Using Systems Restore In Windows 7, Vista, and XP.

What is System Restore?

System Restore is a utility which allows you to restore your computer back to a particular date and time. Each time whenever new software, programs, or drivers are installed on your computer, Windows automatically creates a restore point. This tool is very useful in situations where you may be running into errors or you lost certain programs or data. System restore can be used safely without effecting personal files. To use system restore follow the steps below.

Please note that if you’re running into serious problems with windows this method may or may not work at all.

 How to get to this utility

Method 1: Click on Start>Run>rstrui.exe   -(rstrui.exe  Entering this name will launch the  Windows system restore program.

To use system restore using this method please look at the steps depicted below:

 

Method 2:

 

  1. Click on Start menu
  2. Next Click on All Programs. (This menu will show you the list of programs that are currently installed on your computer).
  3. You want to find the Folder that says Accessories
  4. Next Click on Accessories look for a folder that says system tools and click on it
  5. Finally click on the System restore.

Once you do this the system restore utility will open and will provide you with dates and times that windows (your operating system) created a restore point. If you see a Date in your utility that you remember that your computer was working fine then you would select that restore point. Windows will then attempt to restore your computer to that time
